An October Retrospective at the Phelps Cancer Center in Pittsfield

Reception: Friday, October 27 | 3:30 PM

Phelps Cancer Center, Tor Court, Pittsfield, MA

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in coordination with the Phelps Cancer Center in Pittsfield, I've put together an October retrospective of art by BC survivors, with a reception planned for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27. It’s open to the public!

Featured artists include me, Karin Stack, Martha Flood, and Kate Wunsch. I'm proud to be presenting my three quilts based on the treatments I received from May 2022-July 2023 (read more about those on my blog).

I'm incredibly proud of this body of work and excited to show it in a place where others going through treatment will see it. I hope to continue working with Berkshire Health Systems to present a show like this every October.

One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetimes. There are many of us living here in the Berkshires, and many of us are artists–the higher prevalence of artists in Berkshire County makes this a more concentrated demographic. We aren’t just survivors–we have complex conversations with the world around us, our experiences drive our creative practices, and our sense of place fits into the stories that we tell about ourselves. The art we make is here because we are alive to make it.
